There will be a combined Archery and Rattan Fighting SCA practice this Saturday at Willowbrook park in Staten Island. The location is easily accessible from New Jersey and Long Island by car, and by Public Transportation for those in the City.

See a map!

These directions are courtesy of Lord Conor O Ceallaigh:

From the East (Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island)

By Car:

Take your best route to the Verrazano/Narrows Bridge. After the tollbooths, stay on the Staten Island Expressway (278 West) going towards New Jersey and get off at the Richmond Ave. exit. Be careful! The exit ramp curves very sharply around to the right!

Stay to the right on the exit ramp. There will be a kind of fork at the bottom of the ramp, and you want the right fork. This will put you on Richmond Ave. and you'll go under the Staten Island Expressway.

*Approximately 1/2 mile you will come to the intersection of Richmond Ave and Victory Blvd. There will be a McDonald's restaurant on your right just before the intersection. Go past Victory Blvd and get into the left lane. At the next light, Eton Place, make a left. Eton Place goes directly into the park.

Drive past the carousel. The road will go slightly up hill and curve around to the right and bring you to the parking lot for the archery range.

Warning: The pedestrians have the right of way at all times in the park. Give way and DON'T speed. The park police are very free with summonses.

By Public Transportation:

Take the R train to 86th St and 4th Ave in Brooklyn. Get the S53 bus. If you're not using a MetroCard, get a transfer. Ask the bus driver to let you off at Clove Road and Victory Blvd.

Cross Clove Road towards the Getty station. The bus stop is just past the Getty station on the Victory Blvd side. Get the S62 bus and ask the driver to let you off at Victory Blvd and Richmond Ave.

**Cross Victory Blvd and walk to the next traffic light, which will be Eton Place. If you pass the McDonald's, turn around. You're walking the wrong way.

Cross Richmond Ave and go down Eton Place. The park entrance is at the end of the street.

Walk past the carousel. You can cut through the picnic area that's behind (to the right of) the carousel. Walk diagonally through the picnic area. You'll come out in the parking lot for the archery field.

I have provided part of the Sunday schedule for the S53 bus below.

From Manhattan:

By Car:

Use the directions for coming from Brooklyn. The Staten Island Ferry doesn't run "car" boats any more.

By Public Transportation:

Take the Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island. When you get on Staten Island look for Ramp A and the S62 bus. Ask the driver to let you off at Victory Blvd and Richmond Ave. Follow the directions from ** above.

The Ferry runs about every half-hour

From the North and West (Bronx, Westchester, New Jersey)

By Car:

From the Bronx:

Take your best route to the George Washington Bridge. From the George Washington Bridge, get on the New Jersey Turnpike South. Get off at exit 13 (Goethals Bridge).

Get to a tollbooth that's as far left as possible. The road splits after the tollbooth and the entrance ramp for the Goethals Bridge is on the left.

***Go across the Goethals Bridge and stay left, getting onto the Staten Island Expressway (278 East). Approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile, there will be a major merge coming from your right. Get into the right lane and get off at Richmond Ave. The exit is just after that major merge.

Stay in the left lane. The service road will run parallel with the Staten Island Expressway for a short distance, then curve to the right. After the curve, go one block and make a left onto Lamberts Blvd. Go to the next light and turn right onto Richmond Ave. Follow the directions from * in the From Brooklyn directions above.

From Westchester:

Use the directions for coming from the Bronx. For the best route to the George Washington Bridge, contact Lady Andrea (Dee Wolff).

From New Jersey:

Determine whether you are closer to the Goethals Bridge of the Outerbridge Crossing.

If you're closer to the Goethals Bridge, take your best route to the Goethals Bridge and follow the directions from *** in the From the Bronx above.

If you're closer to the Outerbridge Crossing, take your best route there. After the tollbooth, stay to the left and get on the Richmond Parkway. (renamed the Korean War Veterans Memorial Parkway) Approximate 3 miles the road will split. Again stay to the left. Your side of the Richmond Parkway will end and you'll be on a service road with the other side of the Richmond Parkway "elevated" on your right. Take the service road to the end and make a left turn onto Richmond Ave.

Take Richmond Ave approximately 4 miles. You'll pass the Staten Island Mall. Take Richmond Ave to Eton Place. You'll know Eton Place is coming up when you pass Chrampani's Farm. Make a right onto Eton Place. Eton Place goes directly into the park. Drive past the carousel and up to the parking lot for the archery range.

Warning: The pedestrians have the right of way at all times in the park. Give way and DON'T speed. The park police are very free with summonses
